  • 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC is the oldest and the only Armoured squadron in Karnataka. With an exciting number of cadets, this squadron is one of the most prestigious associations of Bangalore. The root of this squadron runs deep.
  • Starting in the early 1962, the squadron has undergone many changes and much development. 1 MYSORE ARMD SQN NCC was raised on 12 June 1962 and was later re-designed as 21 MYSORE ARMD NCC in December 1962. Major S.K. Dhamija of CIH was the first Commanding officer who commanded from 1st September 1962 to 14th June 1965. Again, on 17th April 1964, the squadron was re-designed as 1 MYSORE ARMD SQN NCC and further 1 MYSORE ARMD SQN NCC was re designed as 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC on 1st November 1974.
  • 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC was redesigned as 1 KAR (1) COY on April 2004. It was reversed back to 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC on 14th September 2004. 2/Lt Albert S was an infantry battalion officer who later attended the armed corps special course at Ahmednagar and got commissioned as ANO of 1 MYSORE ARMD SQN NCC in 1964.
  •  In 1984 Prof Jacob Raju P was commissioned as 2nd lieutenant as ANO of 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC of St. Joseph’s College. In 1981, 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC won the Best unit award and the All India Best Cadet in RDC.
  • In 1997, Lt. E.M Nagrajan took over the St. Joseph’s College troop and ran the office for 14 long years.
  • Later Prof. Akshay D Mandlik who is an alumni and Ex-NCC cadet, took over the charge of 1 KAR ARMD SQN as a Caretaker from 06/6/2011. Lt. Akshay D Mandlik underwent his NCC ANO training from January 2015 till 14th March 2015. He broke the record by winning in all the competitions he participated in and he was awarded the COMDT’s silver medal from OTA Kamptee. He is the recipient of highest NCC honor Raksha Mantri Padak award.
  • As of June 2022, the troop strength is 56 cadets (which includes 4 vacancies of the HQ).
  • With its history as rich as this, the 1 KAR ARMD SQN NCC, ever since its inception in 1962 has induced more than 50 officers in the mighty Indian Army and has never failed to surprise its admirers with their achievements.
  • In the academic year 2022-23 NCC became an open elective as a curriculum under the NEP policy in the University programme.
