Department of Advanced Computing

The Department was established in 2016 with the initiation of a 2-year postgraduate programme in Big Data Analytics. In 2020, the Department introduced a 1-year postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security in collaboration with HKCS Foundation and an Undergraduate programme BCA(Data Analytics). In 2021, the Department introduced a 1-year postgraduate Diploma in Data Science.

The MSc (Big Data Analytics) programme enjoys the support and patronage of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(TCS), and is built around a state-of-the-art laboratory established with TCS. Professor Bimal Kumar Roy, the eminent academic and researcher, former Director of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), and Padma Shri awardee, is the guiding spirit and adviser of this program.

The Department’s lab, that can accommodate 60 students and work for extended hours, has a high-speed computing infrastructure to handle big data loads, and a high-definition Cisco video conferencing facility for students and faculty to interact with industry experts, in academic and consulting roles.

The Department’s M.Sc.(Big Data Analytics) program has been an unqualified success; over 300 students have completed the program, and today work in India’s top IT establishments, including TCS, in a variety of professional roles undertaking complex projects and assignments in statistical modeling and inference, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and AI.

The vision is to equip students with requisite skills to secure and analyze Big Data resulting in valuable insights. Such qualified students will graduate as professionals with secular, progressive and socially responsible outlook to play a pivotal role in meeting the demands of the rapidly expanding digital economy.

The Vision of the Department is to ensure that our students have a deep and analytical understanding of the field and to enable them to use their immense potential to enhance the quality of human life by contributing to the field of Technology , preparing them for their Career in the Industry , and to the needs of the Society with Ethical responsibilities.

The Department offers quality education in the Science of Computing by providing courses with Computer Applications, Courses in combination with Physical Science and Courses with Specialization and by focusing on the Personal, Emotional and Character development.

The Department conducts a Board of Studies every year and offers the syllabus according to the Industry requirements and demands. BCA is a three-year undergraduate degree program for candidates wishing to delve into the world of Computer languages. Being one of the most popular options to get started with a career in Information Technology, this course gives you an insight into the world of computers and its applications. M.Sc. Computer Science is a two-year postgraduate program provisioning to the group of candidates drawn to probe deeper into the realm of computer science. It aims to prepare young professionals for challenging business opportunities in the IT sector. The Department also assists research scholars of various universities such as Bharathiar University, Sri KrishnaDevaraya University, and Mother Teresa University. The Department has 14 staff members. All faculty members have completed their MPhil and are on the verge of completing their P.hD. Both members of the staff and students are actively involved in the research. The students ought to prepare a term paper that is a culmination of a certain amount of research performed by the student on a topic of their choice as approved by the Department. The student is guided continuously during the process by the teachers. All final year students will have to develop and complete a project for an organization outside the College. The students need to have a deep awareness of the existing environment and produce workable solutions, ensuring that they have sufficient exposure and preparedness for a challenging career in the field. The Department organizes conferences, workshops, Intercollegiate IT fests, FDP's, Guest lectures, Expert talks, Panel discussion on new trends in computer science and Information technology.
