Bachelor of Vocation in Visual Media and Film-Making

The BVoc Visual Media and Filmmaking (VMF) is a three-year comprehensive degree programme that lays a foundation for all aspects of filmmaking for the student. Blended with a modern and updated pedagogical approach to the teaching-learning process, the programme provides a congruence between students' holistic development and industry suitability. The programme has state-of-the-art film studios, rich internships, film clubs, film festivals, workshops, hands-on training and master classes.

Admission Process: The applicants must fill in complete information on the online application form and upload all required certificates (whatever is available) and photos.

Selection Process: The candidates have to appear for an entrance test. The details of the entrance test are detailed below. The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. There are two rounds in the interview. The dates of the entrance test and the subsequent interview will be announced on the website. Once the final interview is over, candidates have to pay their programme fee within 48 hours,
and the mode of payment must be online

Instructions (to the candidates):   

  • This is an important round of test-cum-interviews (SJUET); if you clear this round, you will be shortlisted for the final interview for your possible admission
  • Please ensure that you have a good, stable internet connection
  • Login from a computer with audio, video and internet; don’t join from a phone.
  • You MUST have a head-phone or an ear-phone set. Without these you won’t be able to attend SJUET. Hence, please arrange for these.
  • You need to be seated in a convenient location for online SJUET; if you are travelling or are busy with something else, we will not be able to administer SJUET for you. It is essential that you dedicate your full attention to this test-cum-interview without any distractions. Failing to do so will result in the forfeiture of this opportunity.
  • Sit facing the camera, with camera “ON” at all times focusing on you in a big-mid-shot. 
  • There should be sufficient light falling on your face.
  • Log in at least 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time, and wait to be admitted.
  • Change your Zoom Display Name to your (eg: 24SJUF55050-Rahul); it helps us to identify and admit you as our correct.
  • Your parents/ guardians/friends/ siblings should NOT be round. Join alone!
  • During SJUET, nobody should come into your vicinity.
  • A dedicated, well-lit, relatively noise-free room, free from any movement is a must.
  • Ensure that you have uploaded all your documents including the LOU.
  • If you have to wait a little bit, please bear with us. We will try our best to expedite it for you. 
  • Mail us at admissions.icms@sju.edu.in if you have waited a long time AFTER your time; this is only for the School of Communication programs; not other subjects! 
  • If you have portfolios, please keep them ready – physical and digital copies

 

  1. A candidate who has passed the two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by the Karnataka Pre-University Education Board or any other examination considered equivalent by the Government of Karnataka shall be eligible for admission to this programme.
  2. In addition to the above criteria, admissions to UG programmes in the School of Communication and Media Studies will be determined through an assessment consisting of a test, interviews, and portfolio assessment. The total marks allocated for the assessment will not exceed 50.
  3.  These criteria may be subject to change based on the modality or platform used for the Entrance Test.
  4. Students of undergraduate programmes must study two languages, out of which one shall be English and the other shall be either an Indian language or a foreign language other than English. However, with special permission from the Vice-Chancellor, students can select Additional English as a foreign language.

  •  To claim the Karnataka category fee, the candidates should have studied the last 7 years in Karnataka.[Not applicable for OCI (Overseas Citizens of India), PIO (Person of Indian Origin), and Foreign Nationals].
  • ** To all candidates except those who have passed the 12th examinations conducted by the Karnataka Pre-University Board.

NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the Programme for candidates who:

  • Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
  • NRI and candidates who have applied under the NRI category.

Selected candidates must first update the following documents on their admission portal before the interview. The admitted students must submit the original documents at the Admin Office:

  • Class 10th Certificate (High School) and Marks Card
  • Class 11th Certificate and Marks Card
  • Class 12th Certificate (Senior Secondary School) and Marks Card
  • Transfer Certificate from last qualified institution by 31 August 2023
  • Migration Certificate except for the Karnataka State Board applicants by 31 August 2023
  • Two passport-size photographs and one stamp-size photograph in formal dress with a white background
  • Two Photocopies of the Online Payment Receipt
  • Valid ID proof such as Aadhaar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID Card
  • Letter of Undertaking.pdf

 

Candidates belonging to any of these categories -PIO / OCI / SAARC / FOREIGN NATIONALS-must submit the following documents:

  • Photocopy of Passport and Visa Details
  • Copy of PIO / OCI card (whichever is applicable and available at the time of admission)
  • Certificate of Medical Fitness from an approved medical practitioner accredited by the Medical Council of India
  • Resident Permit (If available)

The syllabus for the Bachelor of Vocation in Visual Media and Film-Making is as follows:(Students may have to visit some media houses/ studios or events like film festivals, art festivals, etc. relevant to enhance their learning experience. These could be in Bengaluru or -in some cases- outside Bengaluru. These visits are bound to incur small costs like travel and even board and lodging (in case the visit is to an outstation location). These will have to be borne by students themselves.)

  • Train in editing, cinematography, production, write film scripts and handle acting
  • Help understand the art and craft of filmmaing with the help of critical film-viewing and discussions

  • To teach students to demonstrate these skill-sets in the film production process.
