Undergraduate Programme
The disciplines of Optional English and Journalism study the mechanics of the English language and have an emphasis on writing and speaking. Journalism prepares students to write, report, analyse and comment on significant news events and apply their writing skills specifically to careers with newspapers, journals and other news reporting outlets. In Optional English, through a wide-ranging exposure to literary texts, students will build a thoroughgoing acquaintance with general principles of Linguistics and a range of vocational competencies including writing, effective communication, critical-thinking skills and so on. The programme draws on the fact that Psychology is a particularly rich source of material for the media. Some of the most significant and high-profile news items are about Psychology. The discipline also underlies a vast amount of media content in newspapers, magazines and digital publications.
